I am in the process of helping my pop convert his single axle 2000 F250 to a dual rear wheel setup. His bed is rotting off as of recently and we are thinking about putting dual wheels on the back to stabilize the truck while towing. We will either have a custom bed made to fit the rear end, or find a used F350 bed to drop on the rear. My question is, who has done this already? Do we need to switch axles, or can we use adapters? what is the advantage and disadvantage of both? What is the best source for a replacement bed for the truck, and what years could we use? His truck is a short bed crew cab. He pulls a fifth wheel rv, that is not too large, about 11,000 to 13,000 loaded. Any information would help us out. Thanks.

 

just bolt the dually wheels to the factory axle and buy a bed to that width, and buy you a set of front dually outters and swap them.....

this would be the simplest way about it have you thought about possibly doing a flat bed on it?

 

we have thought about putting an aluminum flat bed on. We don't know what the price difference would be. Would putting the dual wheels on require adapters, and are they as strong? thanks guys.

 

you dont need adapters, they should bolt right on your factory studs.....my brother bolted a set of factory steel dually wheels on his 1989 F250, and its the same rear axle you have....just 1/4 inch bigger ring gear and different lug pattern.....but still the same.....

 

so all i have to do is get dually rims and bolt them on to the factory studs no dually adapters needed?
