My 1996 Ford f350 the tires are wearing on the inside more than the outside, any ideas on what could be the cause? the top of the tires lean out from the truck. i had a buddy tell me that my coil springs were getting wore out and that it was common for the twin I Beam suspension to do that. Its a 2 wheel drive also. Any ideas would be helpful. thanks

 

ball joints?

 

I wasnt sure if ball joints would cause that because the top was leaning out. i thought that when all joints were going out it would cause the tires to lean in. im not sure i dont know much about suspensions. thanks

 

well if the top is leaning out then it would be wearing hard on the outside edge of the tire. get the front end off the ground and put a bar under the tire and pry upwards. if you get play look and see where it's coming from.

 

That Is what I was thinking but the outside has prolly a 1/4 inch of tread while the inside edge has less than an 1/8, it just doesn't add up I'll get it in the barn Tommorow to check it out, I'll keep everyone updated, thanks

 

drive it in a straight line for say 50 yards and get out and look.

 

Sounds alot like ball joints

 

Even though the tops of the tires are leaning out if you are wearing the inside of the tire you will need tie rod ends. The tires toe out from loose tie rods causing the inside of tire to wear. Worn ball joint or weak springs will allow the tires to lean in at the tops ( negative camber )

use the pry bar trick and if you tow a lot, you may have to check the aligment loaded in the driveway! thats how we check our trucks, with a load on them. hope this helps!!! btw, if you have a good suspension and air bags you will amazed how much you can haul and it wont effect your alignment...

 

how bout just getting an alighment done?? there are adjustments for camber/caster.
