Default Bone stock obs 7.3, Stock HPOP or 17*??

Hey guys I have a obs 1997 7.3 powerstroke,it runs pretty good most of the time but when the engine is remotly cold it runs somewhat odd. It either runs like a na 7.3 pulling a dozer or it runs like a scalded dog. Also if its been parked for a hour or so it will run sluggish at first. When it gets to operating temperature it starts running more normal. So does that sound like a HPOP issue or a sensor or injectors or? I'm wanting to get a Dp tuner for it but I dont want to do that yet if it needs a HPOP or injectors. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a typical diesel... They run sluggish when cold.

You will need to find a scanner that can read ICP and duty cycle to diagnose the HPOP. Then you will know the shape it is in.

How many miles on the truck? Any smoke or any other issues?

I dont run any of my diesels very hard at all until they are warm. It just runs totally different sometimes, either guttless or very strong then normal when warmed up. No not really any odd smoke or anything. I was thinking I'm pretty sure the hpop is in fairly good shape because it starts fine when the engine is hot or cold. The truck has just hit 200k. It sit for a year or so before I got it which was about a year ago. I wonder if it aint a sensor that has something to do with the hpop or some other sensor because for the most part the truck runs pretty good. Sometime it will have a little rough feel when rolling into the throttle other than that I cant think of anything else. Thanks a lot

Sounds exactly like th ebpv doing exactly what it is supposed to do to help warm the engine. There is probably nothing wrong. Whether or not you should disconnect it is a discussion unto itself.
