A friend of mine bought a 88 f250 powerstroke and has been saying that the transmission is shiftIng out of 1st gear at like 35mph and stuff so please let me know if it's a trans issue or is the truck geared just that low thanks

heres more info on the truck it has a 7.3l, C6 automatic transmission, Sterling 10.25 rear end, Dana 50 front end

 

ahh 88 powerstroke,prob 7.3 idi and c6 is a good low gear auto,and probably got 355 gears with a c6 tranny

that is only a 3 speed trans.....

 

So it's just geared that low ?

 

if it is a stock truck, with the c6 trans, most likely 3.55 gears. what rpm does it cruise at 55 at?

 

actually there is a real good probability that it has 4.10 or even 4.55, depending on who ordered the truck originally, mine came with 4.10, i swapped them over to 3.55 with the 4.10, 60mph was the top i would take it with the rpms at a safe range, with the 3.55, i could do 70
