Default Glow plug control

I am a newbie and new diesel truck owner (7.3 IDI) and have a question please. My tractors are switch not auto glow plugs. I use them when I think the engine may need them. Never had a problem with them. So why would a conversion like this be bad on my truck?

If you forget to turn the switch off, you will burn up the gp's. Better to use a push button if that is how you are going to do it.
