kinda random but i thought id post it to give some guys a confidence boost on 6.5 reliability. at work we just got (about 3 months ago) a 1999 6.5 diesel 15 passenger cargo van, it has 1022770 km on it and doesnt sound too far off from my 98 with 323000 km on. only problem we have had with her was the glow plug relay was toast, probably original and the original starter just crapped out when winter weather started to hit. other then that she runs like a top. Just some random info for you guys thought you may be interested to hear they can last forever and then some.

mine has 351,900km on it.
some strange parts are original and in fine shape. U joints for instance.
and it has lived one hard life. I have personally had the temp gauge pinned at least once. the truck has been in water to the bumpers, snow to the bumpers, mud past the diffs, and I've pinned the speedo a few times as well.

she just keeps going.

 

ya they are pretty beastly contrary to what some people may say. myn has never let me down and i got 324,000km. just needs a new front diff axle seal, probably will sort itself out.

 

well i just blow my frist head gasket ,crack head or crack the block with over 380,000 miles on it and i was still pulling 16,500 lbs with it now she gone now driving 94 7.3 IDI with 173,000 on it in till i get back home this month and be getting me other 6.5

These 6.5 are good motors if you take care of them i have put my truck thru hell and back we put over 12,000 miles just this summer pulling my big *** 5th wheel it pull so MNT's where she should had blown long time ago. There was times i seen 1500 egt's and 240 water temps pulling the mtns

Long story short 6.5 will do lot and take a lot
