Default COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS

i have some questions you guys may be able to help me with, im still a little new with diesel performance...i want to buy a cold air intake system for my 02 powerstroke (7.3), but theres about a million different manufacturers. Is there really a difference between brands? i mean they all do the same thing correct? flow cold air. im looking to get fuel mileage out of this thing, and some torque. I have PMR's so i aint tryin to pack it with HP and blow it up. Any help would be great, or system setup suggestions? (intakes, chips, tuners, bigger turbos) remember, im lookin for torque and fuel mileage

I prefer AFE. The most common setup is an intake, chip, and exhaust. I went with the AFE Stage 2 (wet), chopped the exhaust, and got a DP-Tuner F5 w/ high idle, 80 economy, and 140 aggressive. To eliminate turbo surge, I installed a Wicked Wheel. The dynojet said 272HP/522TQ (191k miles )

With the intakes, all are respectable. AFE, Airaid, and S&B are the better ones in my opinion. K&N and others just seem mediocre.

As for performance, those three things will get you started. Anything more and you start looking into major money. These trucks ain't easy to upgrade w/ a workingman's salary .

everyone told me i HAD to have a cold air intake so i bought a s and b. the kit went on well, and fits great. it didn't get any fuel milage improvement at all but seems like it would suck in more air but i can't tell any performance advantage at all. if i had to do it over again, i would have left the stock filter in there but i know everyone will say they are prone to sucking dirt...

There all the same more or less... Your not going to pick up much if any HP with a CAI... I have the AFE stage 2, but if I had it to do again I would have just gone with a Tymar.

Get some gauges first, EGT, Boost and Tranny temp...

Yes I know you have a "trans temp" gauge in your dash, but it is completely worthless, more or less an idiot light.

4" turbo back, intake, TS based chip and a good valve body in the trans and you should have a nice 300hp truck.

Ok, I gonna ask a newbie question. What is the 6637 thing being talked about on the cold air intake?? Is it a diy intake?? I know it's a air filter, but what mods need to be done to make it work?? Any pics?? Thanks!! Tony
