Default New to the 6.9 world

Ive got a 6.0 but just picked up a 6.9 to get around in till i get the 6.0 straightened out.

I picked it up for $500 running. Only problem is it is leaking fuel around the injectors where the fuel lines go into them. It seems to be a lot of fuel. Are there orings that could go bad???

Also it seems to blow a lot of white smoke cold. Once it gets warm there is no smoke but still smells rich. Doesnt seem to be losing coolant and the exhaust doesnt smell sweet. Ive seen a lot of these trucks blow white just making sure i dont have a serious problem.

I always hear of people taking these engines some where to get the timing done?? Is there reasoning behind why they just dont do it at home?

go to oregon fuel injection, get a fuel line return kit. that will fix yor fuel leak.

as for the timing, you need a special timing meter to set the timing on the pump. they are a little expensive, (300-500) but are worth it if you love these motors. i have one and have timed many trucks around my area.

the white smoke could be alot of things.

a. air instrusion from leaking fuel lines
b. worn out injectors
c. worn out injection pump
d. low compression
e. timing

how long do you plan on keeping the truck since you said u got it to drive untill the six leaker is fixed?

they usually have a bit of a cloud of white but that should be only upon first fire up and it should be real breif.... unless its damn cold... the fuel line kit is a real breeze to install just take your time and use a little sili-glide on the o-rings so when you slide the return cap and lines you dont roll the o-ring........ just went through this my self..... had mine 5 yrs now and this is the second time now first was with the re-man inj. and pump
you should scrap the powerchoke and stick with the 6.9 ..... will last longer and cheeper to maintain........just sayin...would like to by the pick up when ur ready though

It's only got 86,000 original miles. It sat in a field in iowa rotting for a few years!

take the fuel filter off, install a new one filled with either dieselkleen or ATF. fire up the truck for 10 seconds or so. shut it down and let it sit. this lets the cleaner sit in the IP and clean it. next day fire it up and rn the hell outa of it once it is warm. get everything cleaned out.

Well, since i purchased injectors from river city diesel they have continuously gave me problems and kept my truck in the shop. Words of advice........ never order from them. They do not take care of their customer and every experience i have had with them has been a nightmare. They have done everything wrong possible including getting me the repaired injectors weeks after they said i would have them back!

O and if there is ANY way possible one of you guys could post up a couple picture of how your celinoids (I cant spell) are wired on your fender and fender well it would greatly help me out. The guy i got the truck from put new ones in and has the wiring all messed up. When i turn the key on everything works...... but when i try and crank it nothing happens. Also the glow plugs arnt warming up.

A few pictures would make my week!!!
