Default first diesel

i just bought a 06 duramax 3500 dually with 6 speed allison. I want to get a little more power and plan to do intake, chip and exhaust over the winter. Looking for suggestions on what to do to get the best power out of it without going crazy. Will the allison handle the upgrade? Thanks for the input

chip? what's a chip?

EFI live is what you want

i'm still learning but the allison won't handle much over 100hp over stock.
exhaust and intake in stock form should be good to 550ish hp?

efi will do the job, the best easy mod to do for the transmission is add a trans go jr.

as far as holding HP, intake and exhaust tune and lift pump will get it into the 500+hp range but the problem is the transmission will not handle that much power. it will need a rebuild with better parts.

transgo jr will help the trans hold more power over a stock 6 speed auto, and the stock six speed auto already can hold power than the five speed in stock form.

sorry....to the average idiot such as myself "chip" means a programmer or computer upgrade to get the hp. but lately chip means a big friggin dent in tailgate from a chain when pulling trees and buildings down.

the term 'chip' doesn't really apply to most of the power adders for the duramax

there are inline tuners like edge products, then there are OBDII handheld programmers like PPE and EFI live
