ok so im starting to build a 7.3 right now , im just wondering what turbo to run i know where i can get a brand new HX 50 for 100 anyone now if i will be able to spool it or not . thanks

 

nope hx50s are hard to spool with a fair amount of fuel, i'd say near impossible on a 7.3 without tons of work

 

oh ok what should i be looking at to get then ?? im looking to make around 450 to 500hp , im just starting to build this engine right now , im new to the diesel world or could i use the stock turbo and the hx 50 together would that work

 

compounds are not easy to build on a 7.3 ie nobody makes a kit so its all one off fab work

for 500hp a single 66mm charger will get you there and can be built from a stock 7.3 charger i dont know the exact price because its been over a year since the last one that we had built but i can get you a price tomorrow

A stock turbo will not support 500hp. For that you will want a modded H2E, GQSSB, GT42, S400 or something in that range.

 

those are some large turbos what turbo are you running joebob?

 

You have to remember the powerstroke is alot bigger then the cummins so they will spool alot larger turbos. The ones I mentioned are not that big and work great for the 500hp range. Empire makes a compound kit and I know WOP and maybe black widow can build you a kit. Right now im running a stock turbo but soon im going to be running an S366.

 

yeah i know a powerstroke can spool a larger turbo because of the larger displacement but the stock charger is doin good to make 25psi also

to me if your staying >66mm on the compressor theres no reason to go to that large of a frame on the turbo (S400)

tell me what the advantage of a S366 would be over a stock charger with a ebpv delete housing and a 66mm compressor wheel
