Are these the connectors for the tach sensor? They connect to two studs on top of the housing.

 

no. those are to your inbjection pump. bottom one is the fuel shut off solinoid, top one is the cold advance.

on the front cover, about 1 oclock postion looking from the front is the tach sender.

 

Thanks Crawler. I found it right after I posted this and got back outside. I cleaned it, still no tach. Guess I gotta breakdown and buy one. Man, ford likes these parts!

 

yeps, thats the reason mine bounces all over the place. i know idle is 750 rpm, and gov is 3300. all i need to know.

 

I know idle is 750'ish, 4th gear 55mph is 2500 and 60mph is 3050. Tach would help when towing though. And when in 4-lo at the farm. Have no idea what gov is on mine. Would it be the same as yours?

 

factory governers were around 3300, some have seen as high as 3800. IH injection pumps for the medium duty stuff was at 2700

 

Thanks Crawler. I had mine up to 3350 the night I bought mine. Wasn't used to it yet and took my eyes off the tach for couple of seconds. Found out the old girl can climb fast.

 

dont worry about being against the gov. designed to run there. . i run against the gov alot in both trucks.

 

Hell yeah i run mine to 3300 almost every shift...... love that N/A 4" dynomax sound.....
