welcome to db. the blocker plate is worth doing to keep the sooty exhaust gases from being recirculated back into your truck's intake, the plate will cost about $12. don't even worry with the finger stick especially if you are considering a tuner. now you asked for the best tuner and the best tuner known for your duramax is called efilive, but ppe and quadzilla are pretty good canned tuners.

I HAVENT DONE ANY MODS TO MY TRUCK YET. I PLAN ON KEEPING THIS TRUCK FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE AND WANT TO START DOING ANYTHING THAT WILL HELP PROLONG MY ENGINE AND TRANS. I WORK AROUND LOTS OF DIESEL ENGINES MOSTLY HEAVY EQUIPMENT, HEAVY TRUCKS AND TRACTORS. ALL MECHANICAL ENGINES, I AM JUST NOW GETTING INTO THE ELECTRONC DIESELS SO ITS A WHOLE NEW BALL GAME. GET NERVOUS MAKING MODS BECAUSE ITS MY WORK AND DAILY DRIVER. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND ANY FURTHER SUGGESTIONS.

efilive! the only way to go on a dmax! they do have some tuners that are good but with efilive you will never "outgrow" it. you can always change the tunes as needed

oh and you will need the programmer that will allow you to delete the egr or your truck will not be happy

i put in the blocker plate w/ a finger stick.works great as long as you can solder and tee into wires no problem.i have edge juice so i had to use a finger stick.i want to do the intake grid heater delete(major power gains as long as you dont live in snow/supercold), but there is no finger stick for that so i have to get efilive first.

Running a plate without a tuner will cause a lot of problems. Dnt do ut unless you can get rid of the fault codes

no problems... just one code, p0403 insufficient egr flow, thats not a problem is the CEL doesn't bother you
