hey- any of you guys got any tips on mounting this tipper gear?it looks pretty simple,one solenoid to raise the ram the other to lower? direct neutral to the unit and a live to a three position switch and then to each solenoid?
do these things auto cut pressure at the top/bottom of the ram travel?
it,s a 12volt unit with a manual pump facility also.
never fitted one-thought i,d ask here before weighing in.im looking to mount it centrally and toward the rear of the bed frame-all advice received with thanks.

 

looks like the top one would run the pump and the other would lower?

what truck is it going on?

 

hi,it,s going on my dodgeymog in the conversions section,i was looking for advices on mounting the ram,sorry it,s not really clear .
i guess i choose the pivot point on the bed frame,get the length of the ram fully extended and work the chassis mount out from there?

 

ok- i found out the ram works in compression,i just could not bleed it up using t5he manual pump,so i figured to pull the ram fully out and try again,as i pumped the ram started to pull back inwards-so in use the chrome slide would be fully exposed and would only pull in when the manual pump was worked or the motor was energised.
now i need a scissor type frame.damn hydraulic job is getting to be a snowball.

can you tell i never really worked with hydraulics before.

 

In picture #1 the rod that extends from the oil fitting toward the ram end of the cylinder, that is just a brace correct? As in solid bar stock.
I've never seen a hyd cylinder that works under the compression method only, that is plumbed like that. If this was the case the oil fitting would be at the other end. They may do stuff a little different overseas but this seems incorrect.
I would almost have to guess that the pump motor is running backwards and that cylinder is for extension. This is only my two cents but I've been working with hydraulics for 30 years but I'm willing to learn something new every day.
Please post the make and model of this unit.

 

BERT, i have zero experience in hydraulics, save bleeding brakes.the tube on the ram is a take off,it goes to a banjo union,there is also a smaller diameter clear tube that runs with the main black oil line,this appears to be a return.the manual pump will only work the ram if the ram is fully extended first.
energising the pump motor has no effect unless the ram is first fully extended-
the guy who got it for me says 'it works in compression,it needs a scissor frame to convert a small amount of movement [ 12 inches ] to a lot of lift...i will get back to him.
the maker is english-smith industries-i need to get over this job and move forward!!!
