Default Fuel Gauge Fluctuation.

Here recently my fuel gauge has been going from half full to empty to 3/4 tank to empty. Then it will sit on empty for like 2 or three minutes fluctuate again then level out. Any idea what could cause this?

mine does the same thing but its right after i fill it it will say empty then full every once in a while for about the first 1/8 tank then it works fine then when it gets down to 1/8 from being empty it will do it again. . its been doing it for a year now i just dont have the money to fix it. i think its the fuel pump and sending unit in the tank. either that or its the great gauges that are in the dash.
