Is it hard to start all the time or only when the motor is cold? Have you checked the retrun lines for leakage?

Question hard starting

yes return lines are good did have a leak on back of engine going across to other bank it seems to lose its prime some way and stops pulling fuel up to the filter assembly i know its got to be something very simple but one of those problems that can drive you nuts

Check the fuel line that runs underneath the motor on the crossmember, they have been know to rub through and leak.

Could be something stuck in the pick-up tube in the tank. So just clarify, you replaced the lift pump and arent getting fuel to the filter? If you are getting fuel to the filter, then check to make sure the fuel solenoid in the IP is getting power. Its the spade connection closest to the radiator on top of the IP. Also did you top off the fuel filter when you reinstalled it. If not then it isnt going to prime well.

If the pump was not installed properly, it can be ruined right off the bat. Not saying thats what happened but they need to be put in when the cam is just right. The bent long arm ones at least.
