OK I Have an 02 LB7 Duramax it white smoke at idle.. My severe engine light came on for glow plugs could that make it white smoke??

 

It's probably your injectors.

 

My buddy had an 02 that would idle a little white smoke then blow out a nice puff when he took off... Injectors

 

agreed, get your injector balance rates checked out

 

when i drive no white smoke its black??

 

You have a programmer or any other mods that would make it smoke black? My friends was bone stock so no black smoke, just white

 

nothing its all stock i've had two duramaxs and they smoke black i'm going to have it checked out

 

mine did what your is doing when my 3rd set of injectors went out. White smoke at idle and grey/black when running down the road. Installed 8 new ones and that fixed that.

I'm on my 4th set of injectors (including the factory set) and just about every time they went out, it did something a little different.

1st time it filled my oil pan with diesel and the oil pressure gauge was reading 0.

2nd time very little smoke but my mpg's dropped about 4-5 mpg.

3rd time I looked like a train smoking at stop lights and going down the road.

 

i agree... i currently have the same prob with my 03... its my #2 injector causing the problem... white smoke at a idle, but driving down the road nothing unless i get on it then black smoke... but if you are looking for 8 new injectors go to duramaxonly.com mike there has great prices on stock injectors... while you are at it, i would change out your glow plugs too... just to save trouble... im doing the same thing... hope this helps
