the shifter on my 95 f250 was getting very loose and was hard to get into drive, The fix was very simple two torx bolts were loose on the column if you get on your back and look up at the column you will see two brass colored bolts holding a brass colored plate, if the plate has a gap it is loose just tighten the bolts and it will shift like new just be careful not to over tighten for the bolts thread into alum. housing
