Default Looking at a 04 LLY

I have a friend at work that was looking at getting a gas truck but I think I have effectively steered him toward just biting the bullet and just upgrading to a diesel. That being said we found a 04 LLY on C-list it has 116k on the meter what should we be looking for. Also what kind of problems should he prep for. He only plans on using it to two a boat and other light duty items for now. I don't know much about the Dmax since I went with the Cummins any help would be greatly appreciated.

run a vin check, sometimes this shows some repairs done to the vehicle. look for the any signs of oil under the truck coming from the engine, tranny, axles, or brakes. as for the test drive, the allison transmission should not shift hard, if it shifts real hard like a shift kit in the older trans, walk away from it, the allison is designed to shift smoothly and hard shifts may be a sign of trouble. check the oil for the smell of diesel fuel, possible injector rates too high. ask to see if the truck has every had a chip or tuner, if so, what kind and how big was the hp tune.

I don't think the LLY's were too bad of an engine, but they did have overheating issues. I would go with an 06+ LBZ or LMM.
