Default truck kinda sputters at 2000 rpm then picks up HELP!!!!!

i just bought a 1997 f250 4x4 for 1500 dollars truck is in fabulous shape but when you put it to the boards once it gets to 2000 or so rpm it sputters and takes about 5 seconds of sputtering and it jumps to 3000 rpm what could this be please help!!!!!

no no light is on at all and it smokes white until it gets warmed up too

the white smoke is a cold diesel thing. my truck does that to when it's cold and doesn't get to warm up for 45 minutes. but that's just cos when it's cold it misses on a few cylinders. when your truck does it, does it only do it once or does it do it every time?

is it up to temp when this happens? does it sputter or power curve flattens?
