You really don't need an aftermarket air intake the stock one with some swiss cheese holes in the bottom for more air is good up too about 500hp. Your best bet would be to upgrade programmers. It depends on money with what to go with. PPE is good or if you have the money EFIlive.
What's the stock pipe diameter?
Sent from my Rooted Droid as I'm driving 70MPH down the road
I have a 2001 Duramax with aprox. 260k miles on it and in my opinion it's just getting broken in. I run a Stealth 2 Race Edition programmer on it for the LB7 engine only and currently run it at 165 hp setting and it runs great. No sight of the tranny slipping although i have put it into limp mode one time within the 6 months that i've been running it on there. In my opinion you can do it if you want, it hasn't effected mine at all in any negative way. I will tell you tho if you do not like black smoke then i wouldn't turn it up past 90 hp or so because at 165 hp the smoke isn't real thick but it puffs out a pretty good cloud. Also you will see a significant improvement in speed, stock the LB7 will 0-60 in aprox. 10 secs, with the programmer it' roughly around 6 secs or so.
Have fun!

wouldn't go to big the tranny really doesnt like programmers with low miles much less with over 200,000 miles on it. I melted 2 trannys down before i learned. small efi live or ppe. look into suncoasts boost modifier valve for your tranny. helps hold pressure on the clutches only $85.
