Default Gas mileage

I know this has prolly been discussed many a times on here but i dont know how to search so i thought i would just make a new thread. but im looking for a cummins preferably a manual with 4x4 and CHEAP!! other than the fact i cant find one its hard convencing my dad that these trucks get better gas mileage than he thinks. so my question is, what kind of gas mileage does a 12 V, 5 or 6 speed, 4x4 get. both in the city and on the highway. and i know there are some mods that help gas mileage too, so if you wouldn't mind listing them too.

thanks for any info you can give me
joel

well they never put a 6speed behind the 12v. highway milage would should be around 20-24, depending on the gears, mods and driving habits. city, should be 16-20.

what all mods would be needed to accomplish the 19-20 city? a tuner, air filter, and exhaust?

put a 4 inch exhaust and a good air intake, and slide the stock plate forward, and should give ya a lil kick in the panties, and if u can keep ur foot out of it, better milage. the best ive ever gotten out of either of mine has 23.5, and thats with my truck way way over fueled, but i kept my foot out of it for one tank just to see what i got, and i was suprised. so u can have power and good fuel economy, as long as u drive like a 90 year old women

mechanical injection, no electronics controlling when or how much fuel gets injected into the cylinders. in order to change that on a 12 valve, you can change/slide the fuel plate, adjust the aneroid, and do a couple mods to get more rack travel.
