I just bought a 1996 powerstroke and it has a 2002 7.3 in it. The guy that did it block the intercooler off. Why did he do it? Will there be any problems from this conversion? the speedmeter doesnt work becuz of it. Any input would be greatly aprreciated. The engine has 115 k and the body has 145k . Rebuilt tranny with 10k on it and paid 3000 for it . box is in rought shape,.

 

ok. originally tho OBS strokers didn't come factory with an intercooler. he could have done it because the plumbing wasn't meting up. who knows. as long as there is a pipe coming from the turbo and going to the intake manifold it's fine. i just don't know about the sensors in the Y pipe. ( providing it has the 2002 Ypipe.) the speedo comes out of the tranny not the engine. check the wring conections and fuses. if those are good the sensor in the tranny could be bad. auto or manual tranny?

The motors are all the same, short of the EARLY 94.5 powerstrokes... The injectors, turbos and PCM's changed as the years went on, but otherwise the motors are the same.

I would at some point pull a valve cover and see what injectors are in the motor, if he just slamed the 02 motor in there there will be AD injectors, if he took his old injectors out there will be AA injectors.

Running AD injectors on the factory programing is "ok" but you should be running a chip to account for this.

Other then that, the speedo has nothing to do with the motor.
