i want to put in a programmer but i dont wanna blow my head. i dont expect crazy power i just want sum more smoke. any advice helps. im gonna put sct one i get headstuds and egr delete

 

sct is the safest and only way to go, having said that, you can still lift the heads even running factory tuning. Why would you waste money on an inferior product when you already know what your gonna end up with?

Yep, get the SCT, just run a mild tune if you're worried. It's worth it alone for the transmission tuning. A lot of the "other programmers" have very generic commands, and will in fact cause crazy high timing which will probably lead to blown headgaskets even faster. This has been seen when you look at the top of pistons of tuned trucks. Custom tuned SCT trucks for the most part will have the spray pattern right in the bowl of the piston. I've seen some superchips or hypermax or something along those lines and it was way outside of the piston bowl. Timing is through the roof.

 

you can get custom tunes for your truck, so it will keep the boost down to a "safer" level, yes you can still lift the heads just watch how long you hold a high boost and you should be cool, open exhaust helps a lot too get that pressure out of the cylinders

 

oh ok thanks, i got 4in straight pipe to 5 in stacks and im gonna put in gagues before the programmer so i can monitor it. im gonna get the sct livewire from innovative i just didnt know if they'd do mild tunes

 

yea they will do a tow, street and extreme tune, i have been running the street tune for a few weeks now and no issues (knock on wood)

 

I'm not studded yet and have about 10k miles running Innovatives Xtreme street. I'm really not too easy on it either. But I know I'm going to have to do studs so I'm gathering stuff now to get them done this winter. The only tunes I have run are Innovatives Xtreme street and xtreme race so I can't help you on any others. I did get a tow tune too just like the street too much to try it.
