I installed the K&N air filter on my 6.6 turbo and it seemed to have lost some power when towing, took it to the dealer and they claim the oil on the K&N filter did damage to my mass flow sensor, I have been in contact with K&N they claim they will pay for all damages we will see, has anyone had this problem?

 

A few things:
1: Dealers hate anything aftermarket. It's always 'the problem'
2: If the filter was over oiled, yes it can mess up the MAF
3: 99% of the time the MAF can be cleaned and does not need replacing. Which leads to-
4: The dealer would rather replace parts than clean them. That makes them more money and it's easy to blame the aftermarket part on the problem. See #1

 

agreed completely, most dealers hate aftermarket items and when something goes wrong it's the aftermarket products fault

 

my 98 expedition had the same problem... I took a spray bottle of denatured alcohol and would just spray that on the little element in the mass airflow sensor and it would usually clean it and restore the power.... just don't over oil the filter and later down the road you will need to get a new mass airflow sensor cause it will go out with the cleaning and all...

 

I agree with all the posts above. I've ran K&N's for 10+ years with hardly any issues. Dealers use aftermarket parts as a scapegoat rather than finding the real issue.

 

A little MAF Cleaner from Autozone should cure your problem as stated above.

 

I agree also. The dealers are quick to blame aftermarket parts. My 05 ran 100,000 miles with an oiled filter and never had a issue. Like stated just dont over oil and clean the sensor if need be. They claim the LBZ an LMM are a bit more touchy on the sensors.

 

my 2500HD gasser has a K&N and I over oiled it i just cleaned the MAF with some brake cleaner and its been running like a champ ever since

 

I've never had a single problem with my K&N's on each truck. More than likely it was just over oiled like said as that seems to happen pretty often. Also FYI you can by dry K&N fliters like I did they make both types.

 

Just FYI.. unless you are making over 550 RWHP, there is no need for an aftermarket filter. And when it comes to DMAX, IMO there is nothing better than S&B. A few years ago we had a post that showed that the stock filter on the DMAX flows and filters far superior than most aftermarket filters.

Mod your box, and run the stock filter. Ive personally seen 612 RWHP thru a modded box and stock AC Delco filter on a dmax.
