I have been looking into getting a diesel, more looking a retro-fitting a diesel into a gas vehicle (Ford Expedition). I have been doing my research over current vehicles, future vehicle trends and even the past. All my research has shown that Gasoline Engines are eneficient and outdated. Gasoline Engines almost never existed - that diesel engines were nearly the norm. My research has also shown that ever diesel owner loves their diesels and do not understand why anyone would use an in-efficient gas engine.
I have diesel engines produce well over 500hp, 700lbs torque, and still get 33mpg. If these numbers are possible are they putting their reliability at such a risk. This is often a 100% gain over stock. If these numbers are plausible then why haven't the manufactures extracted these potentials thus increasing their marketability?

well lets just put it this way i can move faster than most gas trucks with twice the fuel milage and i can pull twice as much on a trailer and still get damn good fuel milage and plus i can blow black clouds and a diesel sounds cooler any way i would never want another gas truck in my life theyre worthless except for a demo derby maybe

 

I recently made the move over to diesel and I know Im never going back to a gasser. There is just something about knowing you always have more power.

I have built or been involved with several vehicle builds but the only diesel experience I have is with tractor trailers.
What type of realistic trustworthy numbers can be expected from a Ford Powerstroke? My goal is a diesel Ford Expedition. Able to travel cross country reliably with good gas mileage and able to merge/pass easily.

 

Diesel engine are more reliable than gas engine, Diesel engine will give you better MPG*(except DPF equipped diesel truck) Diesel engine will give you more HP & TQ

 

well being as their is approximately 4 different models of the powerstroke, and I'm being modest, and not even counting the new 6.7L in house Ford built engines. I would say 300-400 reliable horsepower can be had with the 7.3L powerstroke, 6.0 is a crap shoot for the most part, some are awesome some not so much, the 6.4 however will make the most power reliably just gonna cost you a ton of money, and the 4 different models of the powerstroke engine comes from the 94-97 models were not intercooled the 99-03 7.3's where intercooled d
