Default which kind of diesel?

K my dad owns a 04 dodge diesel but is ready to trade off for something different. He bought it new in 03 and put about 135,000 miles on it. Its been a good truck but theres just been little problems. Front knuckles, steering column, two lift pumps, stuff like that. For one he likes his trucks bone dry stock, but still puts them to the test. My question is whats a good replacement? Hes one of those guys that doesn't care what type it is, but if it runs, it works. Hes a farmer so we gotta drive though rough fields and wants something that rides nice, 4wd is a MAJOR need, fuel mileage, nothing to special for a back seat but a four door, Automatic, and is gunna pull things like horsetrailer fuel wagon, fert. tanks, etc....So what you guys think? pry something 06 and up.
Thanks.

I like the 6.4 powerstroke, still skeptical of their new 6.7, I like the dodge 6.7 and love the 6.6L duramax LMM too, it's just all these trucks get terrible fuel economy when left stock, not to mention tailpipe temps get above 1400 degrees when in regen, not sure how desirable that is on the farm, i'm assuming not very, I'd stay away from the 6.0L powerstroke powered pickups for obvious reasons, even stock they blow head gaskets, 5.9L cummins is awesome, the surrounding parts are terrible, the duramax would be my choice on the pre DPF pickups just cause it's an awesome engine, awesome interior, and rides just fine, and when properly maintained the IFS can and will last forever

K, thanks ya we don't care to much for the 6.0 powerstroke cause we know some neighbors that had some and they got rid of them cause they just got to costly in repairs, and they do the same kind-of stuff we do with them

Get a 2006 DODGE 5.9 it will give you all the power you need to pull, plus better fuel economy then all the 2007 & 2008 with the DPF

I would have to second a duramax. it would have the nicest ride in the field loaded or not.

From what you are saying here, your dad is gonna buy whatever will be the best deal. He isn't looking for a brand, he's looking for a truck. The manufacturer isn't important as long as it works. All of the big three are good and comparable particularly in stock form. Some of the guys brought up some good points about the exhaust temps if it is newer than an 07 model. Regens are hot.
Stay safe out there.
Ken
