My uncle(25 year diesel veteran)buys from this guy, says the parts are cheap German parts. I haven't had any experience with him, but for the price, I'd give it a shot.

Also, either of these intercoolers could probably be modified to fit up front somewhere.

Be careful- the 1.6l N/A engine has some major internal differences.

- no oil jets for the pistons
- weaker con rods
- different (weaker) non hypereuretic pistons
- different (smaller) injectors with an release pressure of 138bar instead of 150 to 158bars
- depending on output several different cams: the more power the later the intake opens and the earlier the exhaust closes
- different exhaust valves to withstand higher heat

You might trim the 54hp engine to some more horses. But the fun is not for long as the parts will not withstand the higher pressure

The intercooler shown is not worth to be plumbed in. The huge unit of the Mercedes Sprinter does cost the same and is a direct replacement, bigger as the radiator itself.It has a net size of 31" and the same height as the radiator. It is the most common used intercooler for tuning the VW's in germany. Bercause it is cheapo and offers outstanding performance.

The original 1.6lTD can be boosted up to 120hp- but expect a head gasket fail every three month. Cracks will develop between the intake and exhaust valve and ruin the head.
To run that power stable you need an added air/oil cooler.

Ditto. There is far more to the German engines than adding a turbo.

 

i buy from that guy a lot hes good shipping is a little slow sometimes but the parts are cheap..... any way i have a 1.6 td and you should see the list of different stuff, diff heads and the works. better off swaping engines from a factory td

Well in all honesty, would this be so bad, as long as you didn't drive it like a teenage idiot? The power's there if you need it, but you don't have to live with your foot in the turbo.

Don't waste your time with this turbo. Had it on my 81 Rabbit. Blew the rings out after a year. I'm almost done with swapping in a 2004 TDI. Much better way to go. That being said, if still interested, let me know. There is a significant amount of fabrication required for this turbo kit to work.
