Why is it that on some trucks you can hear the turbo whistle out the exhaust and some you can't? Is it the size of the exhaust housing or exhaust pipe? I know why vgt's make noise but what about just a normal one?

 

The whistle of the turbo is heard through the air intake therefore trucks with BHAF, or cold air intakes are gonna have more turbo whistle than trucks with a stock airbox and filter

 

if there is a muffler and cat on it it will quiet it done a lot to probly deaden the whistle i have 5inch turbo back on mine and standing behind it you can hear the turbo whistle more than the noise of the exhaust

 

also there is a silencer cone you can pull out of the charger to make it LOUDER

My powerstroke I had whistled a lot louder then my cummins. But I removed my silencer ring and put a air intake on and it is a lot louder whistle but there's still a big diffrence. What really whistles loud are the 6.0 powerstrokes.

 

you figure the 6.4's would be the loudest. but i removed my silencer ring and it makes me wanna go to sleep with the whistle
