See the picture of the engine bay. Notice the nifty yellow oil-fill cap. See the big, flat piece of dark gray plastic. Notice that the oil-fill cap sits in a little depression in the big flat plastic. Guess where the sand and small bits of road debris collect, just awaiting their opportunity to fall down the fill hole. Pop that thing offa there, and save it in the garage until the day you sell or trade the little clatterbox Jeep off. It might have been a cute idea for some small bit of noise-damping, but, it wasn't well executed.

IMHO, a poorly executed good idea ain't any better than an idea that was bad from the git-go.

Daughter LOVES her little clatterbox, though she does get some funny looks @ the gas station when she grabs the green nozzle.

 

Love the jeep So far best mpg is 25 with e*r unplugged
I think tq is 295 and hp is about 160 The little thing is pretty fast for a 2.8l
I do not feel it is a clatter box, with a little sound proofing
it is as quite as the f350 powerstroke
I am pretty **** when it comes to keeping all vheicles clean so i will not worry to much about the debris your refering to. And do i know what you mean about looks
when your are putting DIESEL in a jeep

being as quiet as an 03 7.3 PSD isn't to hard to do, I would hope it's alot quieter than that

 

I was wondering if that would draw a comment. For those who haven't heard one, a 2.8L VM common-rail variable-vane turboDiesel sounds like a little 4-banger tractor motor. Which means that not only does it generate funny looks @ the gas station, with the green-handled nozzle sticking out of it, it generates looks of concern in traffic, when people think you broke the 3.7L v-6 that you don't actually have.

You havn't heard a 2.5L IDI VM right?- thats a tiny 4-banger tractor motor which turns into an angry turbo whistling(muffler deleted) squirrel cage when the predal is hit and turbo starts to develop boost...

Factory tolerances aren't the best.
But with a little help, enthusiasm and TLC these engines develop at lot of potential.
Torque development is way better than the gas engine.

The KJ is a nice, well accepted Jeep overhere.

 

I dig the engine. I'm not real awful impressed with Chrysler's software. (mystery stalls in traffic ) or their torque converter. Tranny seems good, but, w/out a good TC, what's that really accomplish?

I suppose a really comprehensive chip that stabilizes those hiccups would be worth its weight in Mobil 1 0w40.
