Urea price ?

we sell it for around 8ish bucks for 2.5 gallon jug. But the dealer told me that on the new truck, the 5 gal tank will last for 7500 miles...I think he is a liitle off on that. Does anyone know with experience?

It is supposed to last until the first 7500 service. I've had my truck for one month as of today and have put 6000 miles on it (4500+ towing) and I had to top off the DEF by the time I hit 5000 miles. It is based on driving habits and I do tow alot so it comes with the territory. It's been an awesome truck so far and I absolutely love the new tranny.
Urea AKA; Aqueous urea (Diesel Emissions Fluid formerly Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Is used with a system called Selective Catalitic Reduction system. They developed it back in 2003 for the use for euro emissions standards. they were able to get it excepted by late 2005. BSAF Held the prices on the solution that was sold as Adblu, & Airone Manufactured by the companies Terra & Yarra.
We have to use it because it actually works. I can go on how it works, but you all might get board.
Terra, Yarra, Dino Nobel, and a few other companies closed the market hear in the states in 2009. What started as a solution that was supposed to eliminate the DPF system is now commodities traded. It started out to be half the price of diesel then, is now twice the price for diesel now. It was supposed to be replenish every 30,000 miles then is now every oil change ( they feel that it would be to hard for American Citizens to remember to top off). Don't Run out of the stuff either. you will be allowed 10 starts or less and the Power-plant derates, and eventually won't start till you get the whole engine management system reset. Very expensive! I have said it before in a few other threads. don't delete your DPF if you live in california. program it to cycle less. Same with the DEF(urea), program it to cycle less. Cleair whined to california and the federal government to keep it's systems in place. Now their DPF systems are in a few Euro vehicles. Don't you worry about your truck! More systems are coming down the pipeline that are waiting to be excepted. Let me know if you need m ore info. I attended the confrences back in 2008 when it was in the planing stages. I wanted to Help put in the infrastructure till they cut the little man out. It is the only system out that will eliminate (info compiled back in 2006) over 90% of the stuff they complain about, and includes Particulate matter. The benefit is that it does not rob Horse Power and Fuel economy like the DPF system.

Your thinking of the Diesel Particulat Filter. SCR with DEF does not effect performance.
