Default How can I clean the intake?

So I have taken off the intake manifold today and got a shock!

Soot and Oil bildup up to 2/16 " or 2-4mm.

How do I get rid of it quickly?
First impression was cast flesh in the intake- NO, its all gum and goo!

Could I use some kind of brush?
What solves that crap quickly?
Thanks for your help- days of EGR are counted!

If it's actually off the truck just throw it in the tub with some hot water and dish soap and let it soak. I did this with my radiator because it was crusted up with old oil about the same way. Had to change the water a few times but it came out squeaky clean.

You better believe buddy, I run this house with an iron fist. Good thing I'm livin alone or may be gettin my backside handed to me but right now I rule this roost. Now my only problem is sometimes I get pissed off at myself cause there's nobody else to blame for the stupid stuff I do.

how big is the intake? will it fit in a 5 gallon bucket (18.927 058 92 liter)? if so get some purple power (or some sort of industrial degreaser) and mix it in with HOT water and soak the intake, exchange the water/degreaser mix a few times as it will get dirty quick. also use a wire or nylon/plastic brush to clean out the intake runners. if you can find a "snake" with the small brush on the end like this,

then you can clean out the intake runners very easily.

Thanks folks!
I used an old bent spoon to get rid as much as possible of that stuff. But it's also in the head.
No wonder the 3rd and 4th cylinder are starving for air.
And I'm only at 65.000 miles...
I will run and get the cleaner and the brushes today.
