The first place i would look is on the side of the timing case, right in front of the injection pump. Thats usually where Cummins put their identification tags on the older motors.

Like this. It's kinda hard to tell where it is in this picture, but this is right in front of the injection pump.

thats probly where it is and 9 out of 10 it will have 20 years worth of dirt that needs scraped off
