I did it on mine for bout a 100,000 miles. but my cam broke and blew off the back end of it at about 350k miles i think it was just worn out. but it seemed to have a lil more power.

I had a 98 I ran without the fuel plate for quite some time but found out that at the full forward position the rack wasn't even traveling far enough to touch it. That was the reason for pulling it out, I decided to just grind it to a #0 plate and put it in the full forward position just for comfort in case the rack did travel too far it would have a stop.
