Default 85 F250

Hi guys im gonna be lookin at buyin a 85 F250 was wonderin did they still have a solid axle or the independant ttb stuff then? The 85 has a blown 6.9 in it with a good body I would take and swap my 7.3 out of mine since my 88's body is shot. Any major differences that i might encounter between the 2 engines? Both trucks are stick and 4x4. I was also wonderin if the 5spd would bolt in place of the 4spd without having to change drive shaft lengths and stuff?

I think the f 350 had the only straight axle back then.

Okay well i gotta go look at this thing. Since my 88 its rotted so bad ive been lookin for a cab and no luck. now i found this 85 truck minus the engine. As long as i wont have any major issues with parts not fitting i think ill end up buyin it.

Itll be TTB if its stock, even an F-350 that year would have been TTB

Your 7.3 and 5spd should bolt in with little problem. Both trucks will have hydraulic clutches. The only thing I think you will also have to swap is the transmission crossmember and you will have to drill new holes for it in the frame of the 85. The glow plug controllers are different as well. I'd keep the 7.3 style, it's more reliable than the older ones.
