Default Any ideas?

i am hearing a weird squealing/screeching noise from my turbo. mainly when i have the exhaust brake on and it begins to slow the truck. i dont think it has anything to do with the turbo. i assume that it might be a blown gasket because on occasion i get an exhaust smell inside the truck. any help would be great. just need to know if it is something i can fix on my own or if i will need to take it to the stealership.

Check the egr gaskets and intake manifold gaskets, i've heard people getting noises after they do deletes cause they didn't get the plates or egr to seal back on very well

Check the area around the EGR bypass valve and see if you can see where it's blowing any soot out. I had a similar problem before I did my deletes, and the dealer ended up replacing the bypass valve.

ok, i figured it was something like that, i just wanted to make sure it wasnt my turbo, because that is where it seems like the noise is coming from.

Is yours the same?? First and foremost.. Check for leaks of anything.. Exhaust, Oil (Head gasket exterior), Check your oil for discoloration and if it smells off like diesel or antifreeze. Antifreeze will gray your oil so should be obvious. If you know A mechanic with A Dial indicator to check your Axial play. And to check your Radial play you use wire feeler gauges but is kind of tough for that one. Got to disassemble most turbos to check that one. But if you are in any way concerned it is your turbo then pull the intake tube off and if you can actually feel any horizontal movement in the shaft then you may have A problem. But if you are hearing any noises when you back off the throttle it is most likely not the turbo. The turbo has the most torque and deflection when it is under load so when you are in the throttle would be the more realistic time for it to be making strange noises. Not when you are backing out of it. So most likely A exhaust, EGR, or even A belt problem. Hope this helps.

Rhino.
