Rock Slider Type Side Bars?
Does anybody else sell a Rock Slider type of Side Step? I have looked at the GoRhino Dominator IIs and the RBP Wheel to Wheels for the 2008 Dodge Quad Cabs. But I can't afford to spend $500. I am looking for closer to the $300. I figure for the $500 I could make my own, buy a Powdercoating system and start making them myself in my garage. (Would I have any Buyers around the KC area?)
Another idea was to buy a set of actual sliders for something else like a Toyota or something with a long wheelbase and modify the mounts. But the wife wants a lower step, so it depends on how they sit on the truck. Anybody done this type of fabrication? Pics?
I am seeing too many rusted out chrome Nerf Bars these days and I want something different.
Shipping is also an issue. I would rather either the shipping be decently small or where I can go pick it up locally around KC.
By the way, I can get the GoRhinos from SummitRacing for $330 for black ones, which is the price I want, but want to see if somebody else is out there.

If you can weld and have access to a tube bender, the sky is the limit... You can make something for a lot less than buying.
One thing about powdercoating: It is very hard to touch up after it's scratched. I have nothing powdercoated on my Cruiser because it's easier just to hit it with a rattle can to make it look like new again... Any you can buy a lot of spray paint for the cost of powdercoating!

Rockslider and 7000 pounds don't mix too well.
It's another thing if you are going for the look. I think it was Whit that made a set of running boards out of 1/4" wall tubing. https://www.dieselbombers.com/off-ro...k-sliders.html
I think you are right, the thin walled ones rust out from the inside, which isn't coated or preserved in any way.

Yep. I am mostly going for looks on this one. I like the looks of the rockslider. I did just throw away the money though and bought the GoRhinos. Hardest Nerf Bars I've ever put on. The wife wanted a step immediately. She wouldn't wait for me to make them. I will try making some this summer. I have some pretty good ideas now on how to do them and with her happy for now I have time to make them right.
This truck will probably never do any major off-roading for a few more years. Too heavy and I still owe too much on it to justify taking it on a hard trail.
Thanks for the replies!

Most of our trucks have but 2 secure enough places to mount, 1 bolt at the cab mount and 1 bolt at the bed mount.
I see where you are going with this now, solarwarp. I would agree with you if that is all you used to mount it! I use either a u-blot that goes around the frame into a foot that the slider is welded to or I just weld the slider to the frame... That takes care of the mounting issue!
