We mainly use rotella or vavoline premium blue, either is good for your truck.

The low ash rating is for the 07 and newer diesels with the DPF. Most oils on the shelf today are rated for that, called CJ-4. You should see that on the bottle. There may be some older CH-4+ still hanging around?? We still sell ours and it's still our best selling diesel oil, but most of the big companies have gone to the newer formulation only. And most are 5W-40, so they get by with making only one grade. We do have both 5W-40 and 15W-40 in a CJ-4.
Whatever you go with, just look for that designation and you'll be good.

i am using royal purple. brian is using amsoil. if you still got your dpf and egr you will have to change often because of diesel in the oil. my truck would raise a qt. in 3000 miles

Your oil raises because of the 4th injection event for regeneration. If you got an offroad tuner that event is disabled. Anyways, I use Rotella 15w-40 but thinking of going to Rotella 5w-40 synthetic.

If you can find an AmsOil Dealer near you their oil is some of the best (Little more pricey, but they claim you can go farther on the oil). I use Rotella or Royal Purple mainly but last time used the Napa Brand Valvoline (was on sale and half the price). Once I get my truck back and start changing oils again probably going to go AmsOil though. I found out my Grandpa in Law is a dealer so I can get it at his cost.

I was trying to figure out why my oil level went up after 5000 miles. Thanks. More reasons to get the tuner and get rid of that DPF.
