Default My buddy truck goes clunk or is it a clank?

All bs aside my buddy's truck has a clunk in the tranny and he can't figure it out. He said he's had his rear seal fixed once and it stopped, but a faulty seal has started leaking again. I said a seal shouldn't be the cause of a mechanical problem, but i figured i should ask ya'll.
It happens when hes off the gas and it down shifts. It has new U joints from last spring.

i don't think he keeps up with any of it. He's that guy that thinks there's blinker fluid. Should he just get it serviced?
