for a while now i've been think about making my 85 idi 4x4. i have a dana 55 ifs axle out of an 86 gasser. they have the same gearing. the only thing i need is a 4x4 transmission and was thinkin about puting a E4OD in it out of a new truck. i was wondering if one out of a truck with a 460 would fit and what all i would need.

 

Negatory on the 460 and 420 havin the same bolt pattern.

 

does anything have the same bolt pattern.

 

A 7.3, a 460 bell can work, well with a manual it can Im not sure on the auto. Anyway it involves a bit of drilling and fiddling and swearing.

 

Everyone I asked about doing that to my '88 F-250 acted like they wanted to whack me on the head with a big mallet; apparently, it's a lot easier to just put your engine in an existing 4X4.

 

no. find a complete 4x4 and swap it all over.
