But I don't see why a person couldn't run #1 diesel and a combo cetane boost/lubricant for the life of the truck. #2 leaves too much soot behind, and #1 burns relatively clean (which is why you can burn it in a Salamander). If I had a brand new truck, I would try it and see if I had any regen issues. I'm sure #1 is available all over the US.

I was told there something in the tanks that gets eaten away an and plugs up the injectors, pump

Yeah but the fuel filter is suppose to stop it (if greater than 10 micron). Poor quality fuel, lack of fuel filter maintenance, and extensive idiling plugs injectors. At least that's what the dealer told me.
