hey, new on here. wondering what the best thing to do for an automatic transmission in a 2001 2500 cummins. mine has a little over 200k on it and slips a little bit. i really like the ATS transmissions and torque converters but they are really exspensive. just looking for some ideas before it goes out...any suggestions appreciated.

 

I personally like suncoast. When I got my new tranny, I called them and spent about half an hour on the phone discussing my options and what tranny would hold to what I've done to my truck now and what my future plans were. Also Georend makes some nice trannies

 

DTT is a realy good brand in opinion

 

We deal the most with Suncoast and havent had a problem, very good people to work with and they make some great transmissions along with Georend, HTS and DTT. I personally think Ats trannies are overpriced and would rather go with one of the others mentioned. First of all what are your intentions with the truck? Fill out your sig and let us know what ya got and give us an idea what the future holds for the truck and what it is used for. As for your slipping tranny could be the torque converter or the clutches. If the internals are good then I would suggest a tripple disc torque converter and a valvebody. But since it has 200k on it, it might be time for a heavy duty rebuild kit along with the torque converter and valvebody. If we can be of any assistance let me know

 

I've had my Suncoast for 150,000 mi. and hasn't missed a beat and I have run it pretty hard a few times. Still has a lot snap when it shifts, all my clothes have coffee stains on front I have nothing but all good with Goerends too.

 

alright, thanks for the advice. cant afford a lot right now might just try to get some prices on a re-build. i dont plan on puttin it through alot but i drive kinda ruff and want a better chip, eventually pump and injectors. so any tranny that can hold up to that is good.

Naturally the best thing you could do for it would be to slide it under your bench for safe keeping, that way it'll never cost you any more money That is after you get your 6 spd put in Seriously though I think there are a lot of good auto builders out there, just have to match the build to the mods

 

Where are you located? If you are on a budget, shipping will eat alot of that budget up. You can usually get a rebuild with quality components for roughly the same price as purchasing a unit, but save $700 in freight. Builders are scattered across the country, so you should be fairly close to one wherever you are.

 

im around winston salem NC. a friend of mine said he could build me one, but i didnt know if it would be better to do that or buy one. most companies have a warranty on whole transmissions? if you get someone to do it what kind of warranty can i look for?
