Default 1300+ EGTs

The other day I was going up I-70 in colorado and my egts were at 1300 for about 5 mins they would come down and go back up this was at 60 to 65 mph since then I have found doing that bit of road at 75 keeps them below 900. My question is will an intercooler help that much and is it a worth while investment. I dont want to do a meth kit so if anybody is running them how much did it bring down your temps?

IMHO i would look into a good air intake and a good TURBO back exhaust that eliminates the catalytic converter on that truck.

that is if you don't already have that. also do you have any performance programmers on it?

What all is done to your truck? Like Benjamin said if you dont have an intake and exhaust then that would be your first step. I wouldnt waste money on a diff. intercooler unless your crankin out some serious hp. Let us know what you got done to the truck so that we will be able to help ya out.

What tune are you running when this is happening. You need custom tunes! Was this done unloaded, or were you towing something?

Over this past summer I was towing a 16' dual axle enclosed trailer, empty, using my extreme street tune from Eric. Uphill in 90 degree heat, I could hold the throttle wide open as long as I had road, my EGT's spiked up towards 1450, but then started cooling off as the turbo cleaned it out. I could run under 1300 at full throttle towing a trailer uphill. My oil temp was the one that went out of control.

I'd suggest some custom tunes first and foremost, see if that helps. Your transmission will thank you as well.

10 miles is still a long hill for any performance diesel.

Obviously an intercooler will help some, but it doesn't seem like you should need it at this stage.

is anybody running an after market intercooler and how much does it help. Did it make a slower turbo pressure to the engine

There are quite a few guys running them on some of the Ford forums. I believe they say 100-200 degree drop over any given throttle setting, mostly depending on what other mods are done.

The Banks is a nice unit. Guys have had issues with the older Spearco's with the plastic end tanks blowing out.
