Default 2002 cummins question

I have a 2002 dodge 2500 5.9L 24 valve cummins and i just put a gauge pod on it and hooked the fuel pressure side up and much to my surprise at idle it has 6 psi and going down the highway it drops to 2 & 3 psi, when you mash it hard it goes to 1 psi and i was thinking that this was bad.I have read up on the problems with the lift pump systems on these and i also read it is a 17 psi pump,so what i want to ask is this true? I know where i can get a delphi lift pump replacement thats been upgraded for $180.00 but, wanted to know everyones ideas before i go out and spend the money....Thanks...

your current pressures are common for the OEM system, you do need to upgrade so you can keep the cooling and lubricity going thru the VP44 if you want it to survive

If I had a chance to do it all over again today my pump of choice would be the MITUSA then Airdog and Fass after that.................you cant go wrong with any of these pumps

Like whitmore said the stock lift pumps are barely adaquate when new. Spend the money and save your injection pump.I dont know much about the Matusa. Air Dog is what I use.

Thanks guys...I don't like it having that low of psi myself and i don't want to replace the vp44,that would suck.I'm just getting into the 3/4 ton market and i can say so far,i like them both.I use to own 3 over the road rigs with CAT's but, this is new to me as a daily driver, personal use.I also have the 2003 ford f250 super duty with the 6.0L powerstroke and i have had only 1 problem with it,cold start. It was fixed at the local ford dealer at a wopping cost of $64.00,the fuel injection relay was out of time, runs like a raped ape now.I have a quadzilla M3 max milage chip on the dodge and an edge evo on the ford.I hope to do alot more with the 2 of them but, will go slow with the costs the way they are...Thanks Again

imo, i would go with a airdog. i never messed with the mitusa. i have seen new upgraded stock pumps put out 9 at idle and 7 at wot no load. so i would spend the lil extra and get a good after market pump. the vendors on db here would be glad to help u out. if ya need any help, and are in the north central arkansas regoin, hit me up.

I would say that MITUSA is the best pump on the market. Its all mechanical and you dont have to rely on an electric pump. Not saying Airdog or Fass arent good but Id rather have the MITUSA myself.
