Default exhaust brake "dead spot"

Anyone ever notice that sometimes, their truck seems to have a dead spot in the RPM range with the brake on, a place that the brake doesn't seem to work?

Every now and then, I'll notice that my exhaust brake doesnt' seem to do squat aroundf 1600 to 1400 rpm, then it starts working again.

I generally drive around with the brake on all the time, and it doesn't do this all the time, but I'd say once a week sometimes twice, I will notice that the brake acts funny, I'll get off the highway and downshift the truck to 5th gear (6 speed auto) and let the brake slow the truck, and the rpm's will start off around 2200 (depending how fast I am going when I get off the ramp on my way home, and when I downshift the truck) and when the brake gets to around 1600, it doesn't seem to slow the truck, then as it gets down below 1400 it starts workign normally again.

This, will happen to me one, sometimes 2 days a week. I'll downshift and leave the truck in 4th since my drive off the highway is stop and go, and it will continue to act funny, I'll get home, shut the truck off, start it the next morning, get it in 4th and drive to the highway, brake on, and it's working normal, go to work, works normal all the way there, then the whole way home (today) it was fine....

Anyone have any idea what this is all about?

Read that it only works from 3rd gear up and above 1100 rpm.

That much I'm aware of... but the "dead spot" I get from time to time that is noticable, is in 3rd thru 6th, and is between 1400 and 1600 rpm, right in the middle of the workable range that it see's.

mine messed up before deletes. i think it was sticking i dont know. anyway after deletes it has always worked good

You must be talking automatics, mine works in every gear. I get the dead spot if I have been around town much, but goes away after some time pulling hard or a long trip, I assume it has something to do with the regen process as I've heard it goes away after doing the deletes.

At this point... I'm going to say it has got to have something to do with the regen process, when it starts doing it, I usually smell diesel shirtly after for a short period of time if I stop at s light or whatever... probably the truck going into a regen.

I had the P2262 come up once, we cleared it, I now make it a pratice on monday and thursday on my way into work to run the truck in 5th on the highway and I usually maintain about 75 mph... this seems to have helped the truck alot, it's been alot happier since I started doing this.

I have a trailer (race car) that I tow with it, but haven't done any racing since I bought the truck (took a season off) so I'm sure when I start working it on occasion it will be happier still.

I want to delete everything believe me, but the thought of voiding the warrenty, and having to put all the crap back on when it has to go thru emmissions isn't doing anything for me.

I'd love, to see if the EGR could be deleted, but instead of removing it, just cap the tube that runs from the exhaust to the valve, and leave the valve there and plugged in, maybe then it wouldn't kick any codes off and I could get away with it like that. I wonder if anyone's tried that yet......?

Never noticed a deadspot in mine and i use it regularly.

Mine's on as soon as I start the truck every time it moves... I'm lazy and hate doing break jobs, so I do it just to help prolong the timeframe
