Default Winter starting

My dad's truck blew up recently and we are looking for something, and the diesel VW's look quite appealing. We were just wondering how well they start in the winter, when they are not pluged in. Never had any trouble with my Cummins, but have heard alot of complaing from some of the powerstroke guys I know. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

As long as the glowplugs are good, those thing will fire up to -20 IIRC? I recommend running an anti-gel in the winter in the fuel.

my passat starts fine in the winter. my tdi can sit for 3 hours and i can turn the key without letting the glowplugs warm up and it will start up like i was running it 5 minutes ago. in the winter of course it doesnt start up that quick but does pretty well

As long as your battery is fine you will only have to glow the plugs a little bit. That's it.
For added safety you can put a plug on, if you want. Just have a look here:Swedish block heater for any model- and its getting really cold in Sweden! DEFA
