Stickin it to dodge - Right in their wallet
So this story is 3rd party, a tech was telling me about it. I did not see the setup with my own eyes and only have his account as to what exactally happened but heres what I got from it:
He said a woman came in with a truck for some maintenance like brakes or something. They put their wireless OBD controller on there and went to scan the computer and it just fried.
They then tried again with another obd reader and it also fried.
After further inspection the woman had moved her obd up under the dash out of access and placed a "fake/dummy" port where the old one would be located. She then had an inverter and rectifier setup off the battery to step up the voltage with a transformer to something like 100v and fed it to every connection on the dummy OBD port.
They are pursuing litigation against the lady and her defense is you dont need my ECM to change the brakes nor were you authorized to do so.
We shall see what happens.
I cant imagine those OBD handhelds and wireless ones are very cheap. I bet that set em back a bit

Yea, how could they sue her?? HER truck, she can do as she wishes with it!! If there weren't any check engine lights on it, then why would they hook into it? I might look into something like that for my truck, I've had work done on my chevy(gasser) and I bet the hooked up to it for no reason
