I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the fuel plates available on EBay. I see all kinds of different number fuel plates available but for the most power which one should I use? A #0? The problem is that all the photos look like the same profile; WHAT GIVES? I have a '96 automatic tranny with a good rebuild, gauges and straight exhaust. I assume with the new fuel plate I will need to do some sort of air box mods as well, huh? Will the standard torque converter be OK for awhile or is it going to blow up? Would I need any other tranny mods?
I tow about 6000-7000 pounds on a regular basis and am looking for more GO! Some of the plates say they will add 100 HP, what about torque? Will this do the trick for me if I slide it all the way forward? Any input is greatly appreciated!

 

if your pulling I would do a #5 plate (I ran a #5 for about a year while pulling horse trailers) which would give you about a 100hp boost. Towing with a #0 would add more heat and the stock tranny won't handle it. Adding a cold air intake wouldn't hurt especially since you'll be adding heat with the extra gas. As for the transmission, how it holds up to the extra power is really up to you.. If your hot rodding it all the time you'll be buying a new tranny real quick but if you take an easy it'll last a little longer.. If your towing I would be prepared to get at least a triple disc torque converter and deep tranny pan and maybe a valve body.

 

i bought the #100 plate off ebay for 29.00.. it came as one piece looked great.. put it in and i took it right back out after about 50 miles of riding or so.. it was way to much power? i know that seems imposible but when i hammer it unloaded at 40mph in 4th gear as soon as the turbo lit the clutch slipped...dangit and my clutch was in real good shape. so unless you do a upgraded clutch or in your case convertor i wouldnt get a 100 or a 0..for obvious reasons. i put my stock plate back in and hit it fulll throttle again and it held fine so i dont thing i ruined my clutch. i will be putting the 100 plate back in once i get my new clutch in there.

 

yep i bought the#0 plate from ebay too that has been the best bang for the buck, money well spent i think

 

i wouldnt do anything till you do the trans... if you want the trans to last. call goerend.. i love mine

 

And to think about it,I gave three of those away last year to rid myself of them and I could have sold them on EBAY....

With a stock convertor I would not reccomend any plate larger than a 6 or 8 plate.Anything bigger in size will rattle the convertor and cause its early exit,especially with how heavy you tow......Andy

P.S.-Ok,I'll bite and ask...Why would you spend money on EBAY for a 0 plate when all it takes is a quick trip to a local machine shop to machine yours flat?.

 

why would you take a trip to a machine shop?! get out the ol' grinder and grind it off.... thats what i did to my stocker

grinder works great; but get a nice flat file and dress it up. wont be as smooth as what you'd get off the mill but it'll do
