Default 6.2L changed fuel filter only, now bleed off problem

i changed the fuel filter only and now if its off for 2hrs or more it needs to be primed to start and run, once running it runs great and will restart if it dose not sit to long any advise ????? i read that if the return line check valve is bad this is the symptom but where is the check valve in the fuel lift pump or on the fuel return line???? help and thanks

Default 6.2L fuel filter, changed back to old filter

I changed back to the old filter and the bleed off problem got a little better, so I put another new filter on and this time I filled the filter before I installed it, much easier to get it running this time, but I still have a little bit of a hard time getting it to fire off after the truck sits for more than a few hours , I cant find a fuel leak , but it acts like its losing its prime, this truck use to start so easy every time before i changed the filter ? turn the key and it would start before it would get through the first glow plug cycle no touching the throttle at all, now when I start it I have to pump the heck out of the throttle and it will start on the 3rd or 4th glow cycle, white and black smoke, and then stall , sometimes 2 or 3 times in a row it doses this , then it will start and runs great once started, lots of power with the new filter , will almost spin the 12-16.5s tires on dry streets and will break them loose when streets are wet, never did that before ,
Has anyone had this problem or something like this and if you did what was the fix you came up with ?
P.S. just incase you are wondering I have turned wrenches most of my life even use-to build my own race cars , IMCA modified and sprint cars, and engines too but diesels are a different ball game , I might not be the brightest one in the bunch but with a little help I can usually figure it out
Please help!!!!!!!!

I've had the same problem since I bought my Truck Used a couple of years ago. I disconnected the Mechanical Fuel Pump and installed an Electric inline pump. It started and ran after some coxing once and on the next day it will not start at all. Is there a minimum fuel pressure?

Micheal, replace the mechanical with an electric pump. How you route the fuel lines is where the fuel comes out of the Primary, cut the line there and splice in some rubber fuel line and run it to the inlet on the pump. On the outlet of the pump, run some more hose to the inlet on the secondary filter, inlet side (leave it loose). May as well change both filters out, but don't fill them. Now, kick the pump in and when fuel comes out, kick it out and tighten the line you left loose. Now loosen the outlet side and kick the pump back in. As soon as fuel sprays out tighten it with the pump running.

If it's still hard to start, no worry. Simply loosen on of the injector lines and kick it over, no more than 2 sec. at a time. Do this about 6 times then re-tighten the line. Attempt to start it once more. If it does try and start, loosen a line on the other side of the engine and repeat the steps. Should be able to start it then. Hope this answered your questions guys.

Hi and thanks for any and all replies , I filled my tank all the way and had to drive about 20 to 25 miles each way (for a quick job that took about 2 hrs ,) on the freeway at about 65 mph both ways the next day my truck started right up just like it use to and not one starting problem since , I still don't understand how you can bleed out the air a dozen times with the bleed screw and then it just fixes it's self by a long run on the freeway , the only logical answer that I can come up with is that air was trapped it the injector pump and creating a minor vapor lock .
