I can give you some directions on hydraulic steering if you want. I make all of mine from parts laying around on the farm, and a typical setup costs about $350 or less on the 5 rigs I have built.

Does it have the solid axles? If not find a donor 4 runner and install them. Detroit in the back and ARB in the front. Get the longfield Birfield joints for the front too. Then get the Marlin doubler.

81 has solids front and rear hydro is a good choice so is hysteer with hydro assist. Trail gear sales a hydro assist kit which inst to expensive. I am planning on doing full hydro on my runner though once I get to work on it again.
heres a thread with good info on hydro assist set ups

Full hydraulic with a double ended cylinder would be the best way to go IMO. Make sure to use a inline filter and large cooler. Give West Texas Offroad a call, PSC or POS. They can help with any questions

Ahh, I see the Pirate4x4 has already been mentioned. Great place for the rock crawling tech.

My hydro is just farm parts and I've got $375 in it. Turns my 42inch TSLs with no trouble in any situation.
