Default Pilot Job

The ex and I have been staying in touch cause of the boys and stuff, he wants to hire me to pilot a 85'and 90' foot pole to Edgemont. Which is on the Island. SO my son and I will take two trucks over and spend the night, and come back friday.
He wanted to pay me 140,00 to do the job, but i said no pay me what you get, cause I know its way more, we just talked about it,, 460.00 for the trip. I want that minus the diesel, which will probably be 90.00 and i drive the dmax, dev can drive his own truck. he pays for hotel and ferry. The i can drop the car up there to get fixed, and bring it back sat or sun. sound good eh, Ricks not coming at all, just me and Dev and lex.
Ill stay away from him, and say i want a check up front...what do you think? ...plus i get the dmax for the trip...sweet deal. maybe ill leave him the car and take the truck home to MR.

Where is Edgemont? I know where that area is in North Van but not over here. Anyway, treating like a biz deal is much better for you right now.

If this is just a cost for the haul but you are using the companies vehicles than you are just offering your fee for service (your time). Get yourself a GST number and write him an invoice for the complete amount.

$460 seems low but I guess I'm used to paying so much more for contractors to get things done. Typically, I would think it is $1000 for the trip + expenses or in your particular case $20 per hour or something of that sort. If you get your own truck it would be something like $800 for the trip which includes your insurance, your fee and the applicable amonut of tax.

You may want to think on this a little more and work out a flat rate for you to pilot, a flat rate for you to pilot with your own ride (in due time, my dear) and an hourly rate for dead heads, down time (like ferry trips) and so on. Basing it per KM is another way but this would need to be on top of a flat rate start fee - the roll out of bed fee, if you get my drift.

Anyway, I'm full of ideas.

I dont know you very well but what ive read about the trials and tribulations between you and your ex times two i think in all honestly, and i mean this with the upmost respect, that youd better keep in the back of your mind the mental manipulation that your ex has seemed to be very good at in the past and not let it suck you in one more time.

oh yea, he tried,, the bastard,, he was totaly like come back, we miss you, tried to hug me, kissed my head. I was like get the **** away from me! I had to leave sooner then i wanted anyhow.felt like i ran away again...
As for the pilot job, it was a blast with Dev. we just about both rear ended each other.. twice..Wouldnt that be classic, we wreck both Ricks trucks....So the load we piloted was 116' long poles to Egmont. the end of the sunshine coast.
I ended up with 300.00 cash outta it and spend a great time with both sons. Very tired, cause i drove from 3:30 - 5:30pm. good sleep last night, Dev had to go out again when he got home, he never got home from that job till after 8:00pm.. poor guy! Im not sure ill do it again.although the dmax was so nice to drive, dam i miss that truck. But hes just not worth it..
